1) Where do sportsmen play badminton?
Badminton players play indoor on the court with dimensions 13.4 х 6.1 meters through the net with the posts of 1.55 metres in height from the surface of the court (see the picture).
2) How many persons can play badminton with each other simultaneously?
There are five categories: men’s single, women’s single, men’s double, women’s double and mixed double. In single categories one player competes with another, in doubles – two players compete with two others.
3) How to serve?
The service serves diagonally only from the bottom (from left to right and from right to left). At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court. When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.
4) What are the scoring rules?
Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored. The side winning a rally adds a point to its score. At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first, wins that game. At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins that game. The side winning a game serves first in the next game.
5) How many games must a player win to get a victory?
A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points. To get a victory a player must win two games.
6) What is prohibited on the court?
It’s prohibited to touch the net. If a shuttlecock is in air and a player touches the net, he/she loses a point.
